Star Grade 1 |
|

Water Safety Level 1 - Explain why water can be dangerous.
- List the four point Water Safety Code.
Level 2
- Explain what happens if a person cant breathe.
- Explain haw shallow water can be dangerous.
- Give examples of dangerous shallow water.
Level 3
- Explain why there are lifeguards.
- Explain what lifeguards do.

Level 4
- Describe different water safety signs and explain what they mean.
- Explain the first point of the Water Safety Code.
- Describe different water safety signs and explain what they mean.
Self Rescue There are no self-rescue requirements for Star Grade 1.
Rescue Level 1 - List the rookie action plan.
- Perform a Throw Rescue with a piece of clothing.
Level 2
- Perform a shout and Signal rescue.
- Perform a Throw Rescue with something which floats.
Level 3
- Perform a throw Rescue with a rope.
- Perform a Reach Rescue with a rigid aid.
- List rescue aide which float and rescue aids to reach with.
Level 4
- Choose different rescue aids and carry out two Reach or Throw Rescues.
- Explain why Reach and Throw Rescues are important.
- Choose different rescue aids and carry out two Reach or Throw Rescues.
Emergency Response There are no Emergency Response requirements for Star Grade 1 levels 1 and 2.
Level 3 - Explain why the rescuer’s/first aider’s own safety is always important.
- Describe what someone looks like when they are unconscious.

- Demonstrate how to check for danger and describe some different kinds of danger to look out for.

- Demonstrate how to check if the casualty is breathing.
